SYSFINANCE bids farewell to the teams of the 'Ocean Race Europe' that departed from Alicante to tackle the final stage of the competition.
This event, created by the organizers of The Ocean Race, aims to provide teams and sponsors with a regatta program between the round-the-world editions. This new continental event will be held every four years (2021, 2025, and 2029).
The European regatta, contested this year by a dozen crews, featured a course of approximately 2,000 miles with various challenges that tested the fleet: from the Bay of Biscay to the Mediterranean, passing through the treacherous Strait of Gibraltar.
The Ocean Race Europe was contested with two classes of boats: the IMOCA class, won by Offshore Team Germany, and the VO65 class, where Mirpuri Foundation Racing emerged victorious.
The IMOCA category was one of the most exciting, as it was decided after a competitive final between Robert Stanjek's Offshore Team Germany, who was threatened until the last moment by the fast-advancing LinkedOut of Thomas Ruyant, but managed to hold on to win the title by a narrow margin.
